Chapter OneSera could feel them again. The eyes burning into the back of her neck. She was being watched. She knew, though. She knew that once she turned around, there would be an empty street. The road would stretch in front of her, desolate and dark. Dark as the secret kept in them. The light shining from the lamp post above her was almost mocking. The only light in a vast sea of shadows.Chapter One
She turned around anyway.
Darkness. Again.
She sighed and turned back to the door to her house. Just one more year ‘til I get out of this hellhole. Sera twisted the key in the lock and heard the faint click on
Rough 09Sera looked over her shoulder and saw two figures in the doorway. One was tall and muscularly built; the other was short and slight. But both were menacing in her current position. She flipped back around to the young man underneath her, who held her in a tight grasp.Rough 09
“Let go of me! Please,” she whispered. She squirmed under his strength, but he would not let go. The footsteps approached behind her and a new set of hands replaced Edans. A larger, thicker set of hands.
“You’ve cause us a lot of trouble already,” came the voice of the man behind her. “And now you’re even disturbing the invalid!”
Rough 08The woman’s blonde head appeared from behind the door as she stepped inside. Just as she noticed the ruffled sheets, Sera had slammed the door shut on her leg. The woman yelped and fell onto the floor. Sera scurried past, grabbing the keycard along the way. Before Sera closed the door behind her, she noticed that the woman’s nametag read, ‘Kendra’.Rough 08
She ran down the white hallway across the white tiles until she hit a quarter of the way from the end. Voices forced themselves from around the corner. Terrified, Sera turned to the door next to her and swiped the card. She tumbled into the room and shut the door as the people be
Rough 07Sera stared long into his eyes, and he held the gaze, searching for an answer that he obviously already knew.Rough 07
She whispered, “Your eyes…they’re black.” He shut his eyes and despairingly rubbed his forehead, sighing. She watched him as his shoulders lurched forward. “Hey!”
She caught him in her arms and felt his neck rest against her arm. Despite his strange betrayal, she asked him, “Are you okay?”
He gave no reply, but she felt their bodies sinking lower and lower. Her eyes darted around to find that the floor was rising up around them- up and up until it swallowed them whole. &nb
